A group of Dallas ISD educators has filed a grievance against the district over its use of an unreliable and inconsistent method of measuring teacher performance that could potentially cost hundreds of Dallas teachers their careers.

Dianne Reed, President of the Dallas chapter of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, will address the school district's Board of Trustees on Thursday night, May 28th, over the district's use of the Classroom Effectiveness Index, or CEI, in making employment decisions.

The CEI has been touted as a means to measure a teacher's overall impact on student growth over a one-year period.  Even thought he CEI process has been riddled with errors and has practically no critical support from experts, the school disctrict has announced that a number of teachers won't receive multi-year contracts based solely on their CEI ratings.  This move has prompted Dallas ATPE to file the grievance against the district and to request that the district cease using the CEI until the measure's validity is verified by an independent expert review.

Ms. Reed will  be available to comment on Dallas ATPE actions against the district following her address to the Board of Trustees.  The board meets at 5:30pm, May 28th in the Dallas ISD administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.
